$322M Hybrid Battery Facility Construction Comes to Midland, Michigan

June 24, 2010 – The Midland, Michigan construction industry is presently reaping the rewards of tremendous federal funding, as well as state tax breaks, as the first phase of the Dow Kokam hybrid car battery facility project gets underway this week. The $322 million phase will employ over 300 construction workers, which is welcome news to Midland contractors.

The local construction industry will benefit from this 800,000 square-foot project until 2012, when the plant is to start operations.

Palmdale Contractors Hope Quallion Gets Back on Track

August 12, 2009 – The enormous Quallion battery facility construction project in Palmdale hit a roadblock this week as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Recovery Act denied funding for the project. Quallion had recently secured $20 million in other funding, most of which was contingent upon the DOE’s decision.  Over 400 construction jobs for Palmdale contractors would be created by the lithium ion battery factory project.

Many officials are in full support of the project, including members of the California Congressional Delegation and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, so it is likely that Quallion will successfully appeal the DOE’s ruling.

The 10 acre construction project would bring much needed relief to everyone from Palmdale plumbers to Palmdale electricians.
